This is a missing essential feature.

Many people suffering from this, especially for long term engagements
where communication is not very frequent, this is an issue.

This seems like a better solution, especially if other Fedora
discussions will also take place on Discourse. Some relevant existing
plugins:

Might also consider Loomio (https://github.com/loomio/loomio) as an
alternative to Discourse - it is setup to manage meetings and enhance
decision making. It has a useful email notification feature:
https://help.loomio.org/en/user_manual/users/email_settings/
It may be helpful to be able to comment by email on a topic to reduce
the barrier to engagement.
