Nope, booting with EDK2 on SD card with the USB key where F42 boots no problem.

Yep, that's what I guessed.
Trying a few things to get 6.14.0-63.fc42.aarch64 via U-Boot on the USB reach a state that allows me to ssh back in to get the info you requested, ie. set systemctl target to single and used grubby to set the default kernel to be 6.14.0-63.fc42.aarch64...
