I seem to recall that for the blink of en eye (couple of months at most?) it was actually invite-only. But that is now such a disturbingly long time ago so my recollection may be wrong :)

Matt is mostly right. We did seed the -advisory-board list with some people from whom we wanted to be able to solicit input on project wide matters even though they weren't a part of the governance in any other way. The thought was similar to that of a startup which will frequently have a board, who makes decisions, and an advisory board, who are good to have for testing ideas and their broader connections and perspective.- JeremyOn Thu, Jun 5, 2014 at 5:02 PM, Matt Domsch <matt@domsch.com> wrote:
Historically, the fedora-advisory-board list was created as a place (aside from fedora-devel) to discuss community-wide not purely technical topics. It was also self-nominated - if you found the list and chimed in, then you were a part of it - there wasn't a formal membership policy, invitation method, or even exclusion method or intent. Yes, Fedora Project Board members (past and present), candidates, election wranglers, program managers, etc. would usually join and contribute, so it was in a sense an "inner circle" - those who cared to participate in the politics of Fedora.Use of the list (and corresponding IRC channel) has diminished greatly in the last couple years - so one can debate the necessity of either channel. But I suspect those conversations are still necessary and happening somewhere (where, I'm not sure, as my dayjob commitments have kept me from being as active in Fedora in recent years). Thanks,MattOn Thu, Jun 5, 2014 at 3:43 PM, Matthew Miller <mattdm@fedoraproject.org> wrote:

I was trying to remember, but... it's been a _long_ time. :)
