@jibecfed The protection for the front page wasn't introduced for the migration — it was added in 2016 when we were being hit really hard by spammers. (Look at the changelog from around that time to see the junk we were dealing with.)
@puiterwijk , @kevin — the wiki spam problem seems under control... knock on wood. Do you think it would be okay unprotect and see what happens?
